July 2017 Coach of the Month – Joel Martinez Coach of the Month Spotlights by SPUYSC - July 2, 2017October 7, 2021 SPUYSC selects Joel Martinez as our July 2017 Coach of the Month. Joel is 42 years old and was born in Guanajuato, Mexico. Joel played soccer at Richmond High School and won the NorCal Championship in 1994. He also played at Contra Costa College for a year. Joel became a coach for SPUYSC seven years ago. He has coached San Pablo Chivitas since 2009 and San Pablo Chivas since 2015. Chivitas will begin playing U-12 in the fall. Chivas will begin playing U-13 in the fall. Both play gold level competitive soccer with NorCal Premier Soccer. Chivitas has won several titles and among them are 1st place in the 2015 NorCal’s Boca tournament in Sacramento, 1st place in NorCal’s 2015 Benicia tournament, 1st place in NorCal’s 2015 Union City tournament, 1st place in NorCal’s 2016 Spring season, 1st place in the 2016 NorCal Winter season, 1st place in the 2017 San Francisco Glenn Evolution tournament, and 1st place in NorCal’s 2017 spring season. Chivas has won 1st place in NorCal 2016 spring season, 4th place in NorCal’s 2016 Winter season, was in the 2016 NorCal semifinal State Cup and will be getting either 1st or 2nd place in NorCal’s 2017 Spring season. Both Chivitas and Chivas have been undefeated for a year and seven months, the record in SPUYSC History. As a coach, Joel states that he is helping educate the children in the field. He enjoys seeing his players grow with what they love the most, soccer. Though he competes against much larger clubs who choose their players through try outs and have a larger pool of players to select, he is proud of the support he receives from the Club’s President and Vice President and from the entire club. Our club has helped keep cost low in order to allow children to keep playing the sport. Joel exemplifies what SPUYSC coaches strive to be. Joel is extremely dedicated and devoted to his teams which shows through the many titles won and their amazing undefeated record. Thank you Joel of all you do.
